East Auckland has two clear faces. Inland, Howick, Pakuranga and Botany Downs are dominated by durable 1970s–90s brick-and-tile family homes on generous sections, with standard aluminium joinery that measures cleanly. Along the eastern shoreline — Bucklands Beach, Eastern Beach, Half Moon Bay — large view-oriented homes face real coastal exposure near the water, with the Half Moon Bay Marina and Musick Point on the doorstep.
That coastal edge changes the materials. Salt air degrades the wrong metals and finishes over time, so near the water we steer toward aluminium and faux-wood venetians, UV- and moisture-resistant fabrics, and corrosion-aware components — not timber. Inland, the priority is simpler: tough, easy-clean blinds that stand up to busy family life.
On Bucklands Beach, Eastern Beach and Half Moon Bay, salt air pits and seizes unsuitable hardware. We choose corrosion-resistant components and finishes, and aluminium or faux-wood venetians instead of timber, so blinds last by the sea.
Big water- and west-facing windows get strong glare and UV. Sunscreen mesh cuts both while keeping your sea and marina view, so you do not have to block the outlook to make a room comfortable.
Coastal and poorly ventilated rooms carry more moisture, and that is hard on timber. Moisture-resistant fabrics and faux-wood or aluminium venetians cope far better than natural timber in these spots.
For the inland brick-and-tile belt around Howick, Pakuranga and Botany we fit durable rollers, verticals, venetians and dual-roller combinations. For the coastal peninsulas we recommend aluminium and faux-wood venetians, UV- and moisture-resistant fabrics and corrosion-aware fittings, with sunscreen mesh and motorisation for the big water-facing glazing.
